Don and Dottie
Don's Bio

Don Attended The Ohio State University from September 1953 to December 1958 and earned a BSEE.  He also says he got a little crazy over a girl named Dottie Smith.  Don was a member of The Ohio State University Marching Band (TBDBITL), playing trumpet.

He served in the Air Force Reserve at Lackland AFB in Texas and Chanute AFB in Illinois from January to August 1959.  Dottie's Father conducted the marriage ceremony when Don and Dottie tied the knot in August of 1959 in Piqua.  They have three children, Sherrill, Karen and Chris and have been blessed with three grandchildren.  Don states that he never thought he would meet and marry such a super gal as Dottie.

Don attended Purdue to obtain his Master of Science in Industrial Management from September 1959 to August 1960.  Dottie helped pay bills by teaching first grade at nearby Attica.  This was fun because Jim and Harriet Beard were at Purdue, also.

He was employed by the General Electric Company from August of 1960 until February of 1995 when he retired.  During his employment, Don and Dottie lived in New York City; Erie, PA; Ft. Wayne, IN; Bloomington, IL; Chicago; Milwaukee, Schenectady, NY; Salt Lake City; Toledo; Cleveland and the Quad City area in Iowa.

Dottie and Don's first child, Sherrill was born in Ft. Wayne, IN; second child Karen in Chicago and their last child, Chris, in Milwaukee.  The kids all left home and entered OSU when they were in Cleveland, following a family tradition since Don's parents were also OSU alums.

Don enjoys a variety of hobbies that includes sailing, golf and playing the trumpet.  He still plays trumpet with the OSU alumni band and played at their daughter's wedding reception.  He also continues to work about half time as a business broker.

Don's favorite memories of BHS are band, band practice and band trips were the most fun.  Most everyone had a very spirited and positive attitude in band and Don attributes that to  band Director, Cy Brown.
Don also says that even more important is the many small memories from the class of 1953.  The overall attitude; it was positive, spirited, helpful, etc. and it all added to his personal or business relationships in later years.

Don would like to visit England and Germany where his parent's relatives came from.
