Bill's Bio
Bill attended the University of Louisville on a football scholarship. He played as a center with the great hall of famer, Johnny Unitas. After his college days he met and married Ruth Ann Sander. Bill worked at Beaver-Heilman Ford New Car Dealership in Covington as service manager until 1973. In 1973 Bill and Ruth Ann purchased the former Sampson's Thrift E Grocery Store and operated it as Smith's Super Valu until 1981 when they sold the business. In 1982 Bill began work with Allied Signal in Greenville and remained there until forced to retire in 1997 due to a vision loss.
During all these years, Bill coached Bradford Little League Baseball and Bradford Pee Wee Football. He served as a part time Bradford Policeman for 7 years; was on Bradford's Village Council for 4 years; was a member of Bradford Fire and Rescue Services as a volunteer fireman and EMT-A for 12 years.
Bill was inducted into the Bradford Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999.
Ruth Ann and Bill celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in 2001 aboard a riverboat. They have two children, Cindy Ann and Robert Lee and four grandchildren, Michael, Dustin, Carmen and Derick.
Bill says that his favorite memories of BHS was playing sports and running around with classmates Dieringer, Stoltz and Seas. He also holds a special place in his memories for senior year football coach, Rex Warner eho he credits guiding him to Louisville rather than Miami or Wittenburg.
His favorite trip was to California with Ruth Ann, their children and his parents. Seeing Disney Land, Hollywood and Las Vegas. They also visited relatives in Arizona and California. |
